WHAT IS OUR MELTING POT?
‘Melting Pot’ is a metaphor for the way that people from different countries contribute elements from their culture that enrich the everyday lives of everyone that lives in the same community.
Our local communities in Australia are made up of people that come from many different backgrounds, countries and cultures. They each bring ideas, innovation and vibrancy to our communities in different ways. One of these ways is through the Arts.
For example, have you ever attended a Chinese New Year festival and enjoyed the spectacle of a Dragon Dance and been mesmerised by the beating drums. Or maybe you have stopped to admire a mural depicting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art that added colour to a public space. Maybe you were the artist or performer who shared your talent with your community?
The Arts is fantastic platform for you to explore, enjoy and appreciate the diversity of various cultures in our communities whilst learning about the different artforms of visual arts, drama, dance, music and media arts.
Through ‘Our Melting Pot’ you will have the opportunity to investigate how diversity is represented in each area of the arts. You will then be able to create pieces in each artform that celebrate diversity and the contribution that different cultural groups have made in our community.

Dance is about using your body to communicate and express meaning
through purposeful movement. Step into the spotlight and explore, respond, create and perform, using your
knowledge of the elements of dance to tell your story.
Media Arts is about using technology to tell stories. You will explore, create and present your own story through Stop-Motion animation, drawing on your knowledge of elements and story principles to bring your story to life.

You will explore the different types of cultural music in our community and create your own versions while learning about various elements of music including timbre, dynamics, rhythm and texture.

Visual Arts is the creation of art to share ideas through paint, drawing, sculpture etc. You will explore and be inspired by the features of visual arts and how they are used to express diversity before creating your own art.

Drama is about enjoyment. You will explore, create and present drama through the different activities recommended. Now it’s up to you – express yourself, imagine, transform, respond and enjoy!.
